Next Step, More Than A Roof Housing Society

Organizational Information:

More Than A Roof is a housing provider, advocate and resource group for people affected by low incomes and housing needs. We seek to bring assistance, hope and meaning to these people's lives through the provision of secure affordable housing.

Program Description:

Next Step is a program that works with residents the society's buildings in the Downtown South Granville area of Vancouver to develop strong money management skills and a savings conscious lifestyle in the context of low income circumstances. Each round of the program involves about 20 people at a time. Financial Literacy workshops are offered in partnership with the Money Skills program at Family Services of Greater Vancouver. Participants are encouraged to save for six months up to a total of $600 in savings and are matched a ratio of 1:1 with a total savings possible of $1200. Given that the overall goal for the program is developing the savings skills and habit, participants are free to set personal goals around the use of their savings.

Target Participant Criteria

Program is internal and available to existing tenants only.
